Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

This week we are revisiting an old friend, Fellowship of the Ring. 2001 was a rubbish year, as a matter of fact this movie is the only thing of any good to come out of that dark year. I will say that I was a bit disappointed upon leaving the theater after viewing this film. It was good, but it lacked some of the charm of the book. It wasn’t until the Summer of 2002, when the extended edition came out, that my true love of this movie franchise began to bloom. While there is no replacing the written works of Tolkien in my heart, the interpretation that Peter Jackson gave us was well played even with some of his personal flourishes. This first film is my favorite, perhaps because of it’s focus on a small group of travelers whose bonds grow stronger with every ordeal. We usually screen these films in Autumn, it felt like it was close enough.

So which one is your favorite? Or are you a Tolkien purist? Let me know 🙂

Buttercup

Finally getting around to viewing Wonder Woman. I have to admit that I teared up when she crawled out of the trenches and began to cross “No Man’s Land”. While Lynda Carter is “my Wonder Woman”, Gal Gadot is the perfect person to pick up the mantel. Robin Wright’s Antiope was incredible 🙂

A Great Read (Err Listen)

This is Not a paid advertisement.

I picked this up from Amazon Audible and it was a great listen. I had to pause several times because I was at work, but it will be one that I re-listen to a few times. Don’t let the title put you off… it’s more about letting go of things that don’t really matter, leaving you more time and energy to dedicate to what does.

Basically it’s Punk Zen. I needed a refresher in the direction of the eight fold path, and this was it.
